I think I have the LED wires for the 86 rigs dialed. I think the best way would be to check the supposed LED pins with a multimeter with the truck in a diagnostic mode. If you receive a signal with the LEDs flashing you can match that flashing to the LED color and finalize what color that pin is oriented with. I will do this with my 86.5 when I get the chance to.

As for the button, I am unsure how to do that except to actually test it.

I know there is concern of frying the ECU not being sure if the switch connections are correct, that's why I'm wondering if you can test for continuity from the switch on the ECU to the check connector first.

In theory you can test continuity with any ECU and the no power to it if the system works like that but it may not. To test continuity with the switch, the wire from the plug must go directly to switch terminals and not bypass them.

I do not know enough about the ECU to say how to test it properly.

Resistance tests should be OK at the ECU, right?

Ok guys - did some junkyard recon today...tested continuity on those blue and yellow wires back to the ECU from the diagnostic port. Those DO lead back to the ECU, so as soon as I can get a chance to get my wires sorted and my spare ECU in place, I'll let everyone know what happens.
BTW, this was on a full 87 truck which had all the wires (including some for automatic trans).

I hope it works. It's coming from China, so it'll be here in a few months.
Meh. It doesn't come anywhere near fitting.

I was hoping I could at least plug that up and use the insides as a harness, but the plug is way different. Ours uses some kind of Molex connector, and it has tiny push-pins.

Sorry to say, I didn't think it would, looks like that is the Consult plug.

ahardb0dy, your plug has the 2 wires to trigger the switch!
Been chasing a discharging problem on mine but haven't forgotten about this!
