Default Ford Flex?

So a bit random but, wife and I are looking for something with 3 rows of seating and I am trying my damnedest to avoid a mini-van (unless someone has a lead on a new JDM honda odyssey, those look awesome haha)... With 2 kids and their friends etc we are always taking two cars everywhere. My first thought was suburban/tahoe ext but this will be a driver and I rarely need to pull a trailer etc... I just can't sell the wife on the big SUVs.

I dig the styling of these, my daily pos is a 300K+ mile '04 scion xB that I have beaten every last mile into, so the Flex is like its stretched out cousin. Anyway does anyone have, know someone that does, or has worked on a Flex?

Honestly though I can't believe I am seriously considering buying a ford...

it's ugly, loud, uncomfortable and smelly, but i'll be damned if it's not reliable.

I was eyeballing a 76 Impala estate wagon with a 400 small block yesterday for a grand, lol...

Have not owned a Flex, but I have liked the look of them, especially the blue metallic with the white top combo...

Kinda looks like a bloated Mini Clubman from behind.

My friend that I got my '97 from has a Flex. It's his wife's car. They seem really nicely built, not surprising for a Ford product from the Mulally era.

Why? They build some nice cars and trucks. I had an '01 Mustang that was a rental car for 32K miles before I picked it up and beat the hell out of it through college. It ran perfectly fine until it was totaled almost 4 years later. My dad had an '01 Grand Marquis that was also a former rental. I sold it for him a couple years ago with 186K miles on it. First person to come look at/test drive it, bought it. A guy at my church has an F150 with well over 250K miles that he drives daily.

My D21 is my beater. My actual car is an '08 Mustang Bullitt. Great car, and a lot of fun to drive. It makes my fiancÚ's 2014 Camry look like a POS. At 5k miles, her a/c started to smell like mildew. Toyota dealer claims it's normal in cars down here (WTF?!!!). Then today I discovered her driver's power door lock actuator isn't functioning properly.

The only Ford I've owned that was a true POS was an '87 5.0 Mustang. But it was a Florida Highway Patrol car that was beat on by rednecks for 20 years before I got my hands on it. I did a budget restoration on it, and I didn't feel that the build quality was all that great (for example, the factory used pop rivets for certain parts). But to be fair, that car had a HARD life before I got it.

IMO, the unreliable Ford stereotype is 20 years old. Hell, I like Nissans. But that's not gonna make the timing chain rattle in my ka24e go away.

just not a ford fan haha - I work on my buddies work truck fleet (couple f150/f250/f350) from time to time, brother in law and his girlfriend both have fords that I hate working on (late 90's contour and mid 2000's explorer) plus a few others I have wrenched on - not necessarily a reliability thing but more of a pain in the ass and 'why the f@#$ did the engineer decide to build it like this'

We checked out a 2012 today... unfortunately it didn't work very well with our current car seat/booster arrangement (which we are going to be stuck with for the next couple years) - really nice, surprisingly quick and the price is right but I don't think its going to happen.

Going back to my original plan and getting a first gen honda odyssey and putting a turbo h22 in it (not really but a 5 speed turbo minivan would be awesome)
