Default New to Nissans, possible fuel pump replacement

Hello,
New to Nissans, new to the forum.

I recently acquired a grey, regular cab, 1992 nissan pickup d21, standard, 2.4L from its former owner, a friend, who purchased it in 1994. The truck has about 300k on it has been regularly maintained, has minimal rust although the paint is faded and wearing off. If I could get a couple years of good driving out of it I would be thrilled.

The truck had been sitting at his mechanic's shop because of low fuel pressure and needing a new fuel pump (diagnosed by his long-time mechanic so I have some trust in the problem/solution). The owner decided he would rather have a new car than pay for the work. I drove it home.

There is a pulsing whine when driving and it will die if you give it too much gas. I was told this was the dying fuel pump. Could be the fuel pressure regulater, I suppose?

I've found a ton of great information here and elsewhere (going to remove the bed, found parts at rockauto for a price I can afford). Used courtesyparts.com/nissanparts.com to find part number and diagrams.

Glad to find this forum, probably going to take some time reading it over, but I'll appreciate any tips.

I would change the fuel filter and retest the fuel pressure. The filter can be bought online for around ten bucks. It worth a shot.
