Default New to Nissan, just picked up this '96 last month.

Figured I would sign up for the place where all the experts are at as I'll probably be asking plenty of questions if something goes wrong. I bought it on a whim even though the previous owner said he "just replaced the carburetor" when I can clearly see they're all fuel injected in the 90's...

1996 extra cab 2wd. KA24E. Nothing special. Engine doesn't run as well as I think it should, and it has unknown amount of miles. Check engine light doesn't work so I'm sure it's throwing a code. But it's still able to drive fine on the freeway and also on my 1 mile commute to work. Thinking there may be a sensor bad or a vacuum leak possibly. Also need to find the exhaust leak ASAP. Motor sounds a little raspy.

Good looking truck! You can check to see if there are any codes on the ECM using a scan tool. You can get them extremely cheap off amazon or ebay now that will connect wirelessly to your smartphone to allow you so see what’s going on.

Good info. Does this truck not have the diagnostic screw on the ECM? I thought it did?

96-97 hardbodies are obd2. The earlier, obd1 trucks have the diagnostic screw.

Good to know. Saves me from having to take my seat out and realize it. I'll probably pull the codes when I get it onto the lift at my mechanic friends house to look at the exhaust.
