Default Starter options

Ok so, i seen today on the Infamous page on facebook that a guy used a gear reduction starter on his truck.. Resembles a toyota 22re starter to the T.
Im having heat soak issues with mine because its old and i need a replacement SOOOOO

The body of it is the same, cable that comes out is the same, bendix matches and its even 9 tooth like the nissan starter
It measures out at 1.4 KW but so does the 4wd D21 starter and its more ideal because its more "compact" then the toyota one
Also its a direct magnet gear reduction and the 2wd is a Direct drive .9 KW

Anyone pop a 4wd starter in a 2wd ? Flywheels the same, bellhousing is the same, clutch is the same, Damn motor is the same lol

I see no issues.. I believe im gonna try it just wanna know if anyone else out there has explored these options

the 2wd has a nose cone.. i ordered up the 4wd starter today on my lunch so we shall see if that does the trick

as for the Toyota starter the bolt holes are off by about 3/8s of an inch...

The kid that put it on said it was from a nissan forklift but idk where to buy nissan forklift parts lol

I don't see the point in trying a different starter. If the factory starter worked great for 20+ years, I'd say that's enough of a reason to just use another one that's intended for that application. I don't see the need in reinventing the wheel.

Mr Alabama i do agree with you, but here in the good ol sunshine state and being on the beach its pretty much hot all the time, even with new cables, connectors and battery, In the heat of summer these reman aftermarket starters just dont last.. if i can get a "high torque" or "gear reduction" i figure it will prolong the life of it

it wont.

the heat killing a starter is internal clearance issues. adding a gear reduction will lead you to a dead gear reduction starter.
