Default Z24i Valve Cover Replacement

Hey everyone,

Ive been having some conflicting information in regards to the valve cover gasket and whether it needs rtv? I replaced the half moon rubber pieces on each side and ran a bead of rtv down the middle of each one like the book says. Ive read two manuals and one says no rtv needed while the other haydens manual says to run rtv along the gasket.. anyone with experience with this engine able to chime in with some advice? The gasket looks like it would do a good job of sealing without it but its my first time changing.

Nissan’s factory service manual for that truck calls for sealant on that plug.

Non-Nissan manuals like Chilton's are likely to give you more generic information that works on a wider range of vehicles.

If the Nissan Factory Service Manual only says to put sealant on the plug, then that should be all you need.

See Step 9 below and the detailed steps on the image after that:
