I like the 4bt idea. I'm more of a penny pincher or I would go with a outrageous motor. So I'm looking for a cheaper option that I can still make a decent amount of power with. I would love to have the torque of a diesel, but I have never worked with diesel before, and it might be a bit out of my budget. That's the reason I was originally wanting to go with a small block. Maybe a blower if I can find one without the Whipple pricetag.

You need to outline goals - build around that plan.

A mild small block is crazy fun on the the street in these trucks. If your just looking to hoon around the streets and cruise a carb'd small block is your best bang for the buck.

I like the 4bt idea. I'm more worried about cost atm. That's why I was planning a sbc. They are cheap. and I have parts for them.
