Default A few questions from a beginner...

Hey guys! I've been lurking this forum for months,
Fiesting on the vast array of knowledge available.
I have a few questions though.

• I want to get a body lift in the near future..
Probably 3", and was wondering
What do you guys think is the best
tire size for that lift?

•Will i need to get a axle with diffrent gears for those
Tires?

Truck is a 96 ka24 2wd 5speed reg cab

Thanks!

did you by chance look at the sticky at the top of this topic? IIRC, you can fit 31s with a 3" SL or BL. gears will depend on what you are staring with.

EDIT: Didnt read that your rig was 2wd.

What is your current axle ratio? What is your current tire size?

Why a body lift and not suspension, other than cost? You will have to extend things like the shifter and have a good bit of chassis showing.

what he said ^^^, plus brake hardlines will have to be stretched, along with modifying fan shroud, I havent done a body lift before but those are fairly standard I think. ?

I never really considered the suspension lift.. The only decent suspension lift kit I could
Find in a quick search was a rough country,
and I heard alot of bad things about that brand on jeep forums.

Its got the hf35 axle

Yeah you should really read the sticky on the top of this thread, lots of goodies there.
You can do what we call a poor mans lift on these trucks by simply cranking the front torsion bars and buying lift shackles or an add a leaf for the rear. Will give you about 2 inches worth of lift. Not much point in spending a fortune on a lift for a 2wd.

Yeah, I know its pretty much a waste of money. But
Honestly i just want a light lift on it to make it feel more like a truck to me.
I also have to drive it down really light trails to where i dirtbike at,
It does very well, just when these tires go bald I want to get a decent set of A/T's to replace them.Just want to know if it will drive like a dog if i put 31s on it. Its got 205/70r15s on it now and it drives great with them.

No a waste, just unusual. I would suggest a PML torsion twist and an add a leaf first. 4x4parts may also have kits.

Your diff is open. Yes, you will feel larger tires on that 3.5 axle and the 4 banger. You can always put larger ones on and give it a shot and see if it works like you want, if not, swap ring and pinions.

Would it be easier to find a axle out of another hardbody with the ratio i want and swap them or just regear?

It would be easiest to find an axle out of a 98-04 xterra or frontier and swap it in, I only say that because they are easier to find, but yes one from a hardbody will work as well.

I dont know about the driveshaft setup on a hf35 axle, but I actually swapped a h233b with 4.6 gears from a newer xterra into my frontier with a c200. I got the axle for 125$ but you will need the outer flange off the end of the driveshaft. Im not sure of the part name whether to call it a pinion flange or driveshaft flange but I doubt your driveshaft will bolt directly up.
