Default sputtering won't take gas

My 2000 4x4 v-6 frontier king cab will out of the blue when starting to move begin sputtering. It will barely chug along, then if I just let it idle for a few seconds to a minute it clears up and drives as if nothing happened. Has any one experienced something like this?
