Angry Nissan Frontier 2006 acted like it was out of gas.

HI, new on this site. Had a very odd problem, entering onto a highway, going down hill on the entrance ramp. Floored my truck to get up to highway speed, when, several seconds later I had no power. Made it to the shoulder when a DOT truck pulled up behind me. Had me pop the hood and asked me to try starting a few times. Truck would start and then stall, each time. He asked if I had gas, and I said yes, at least seven gallons. As a last resort he added a gallon of gas in case a float was stuck. Truck started right up. Took it to a gas station and filled it, and it only took 12 gallons. I know I have a 20 gallon tank. So now I'm afraid to go below a half a tank. What might have caused this? Everyone I spoke to was as baffled as I am.

It tough to say without a pattern but I’d start by assuming the gauge was wrong.

My dads frontier started doing this and it was clogged catalytic converters. Also I've swapped the camshaft sensor because it was also acting up. And I don't recall if I also swapped the crank sensor but could be. Is there any codes that pop up? His is a 05 4Cyl Frontier.

You might wanna repost your question in the 05+ forum. More info about your truck might be helpful too - engine, auto or manual, 2WD or 4x4, etc.
