Default Wiper washer not working right

I searched this forum and couldn't find the answer to my question so am posting now. I have an '09 Frontier V6. The wipers work fine and the washers do put out a little water, just not near as much as before and the washer fluid tank is full. It used to spray the windshield and now dribbles out. I'm guessing the lines are clogged, but I can't seem to get the outside squirters off the truck. I don't want to just rip them off. Is there a way to correctly remove the squirters? Also, how do I get to the lines to check them. They seem embedded in the cowl housing. Thanks for any help you can provide!

Check the nozzles for wax build up, especially if the truck was waxed recently, use a sewing needle to clean out the holes. Also you should be able to pull a hose from the wiper fluid reservoir, use low pressure air from an air hose to try to blow the lines out. If that does not work, the pump may be bad.

Remove the rubber line from the nozzle assembly and test the pump. I suspect that the pump is fine.


I suspect clogged or partially clogged nozzles. I used fine wires to clean out the nozzles on my older Frontier.

Guys, I want to thank you both for the replies. I'll try each of the suggestions. The hose may be clogged as I've not pulled it from the fluid reservoir under the hood yet, but I have used a pin to stick into the sprayer nozzles and they don't seem to be clogged. Appreciate it!

Yeah, and check the tubing and connections for leaks too.


My oldest daughter's '98 Pathfinder leaked where washer pump attached to the tank.

Okay, I looked at the washer reservoir tank and don't see any tubes coming out of it. On my model, 2009, will I need to unbolt/unscrew the clear plastic tank reservoir in order to get to the tube that must be running from it to the washer nozzles?

I don't know on your question, but I would say YES. The hose must be hidden. There has to be one, after all. Right? You can check for leaks by keeping an eye on the tank, and the area below and around it...while someone enables the sprayer from inside the cab. If you don't see any dripping to the ground or obvious leaks...

I would pull the reservoir tank off...remove the hoses from it...and replace the hoses. Just take your old hose to the parts store and match them up with clear hose of the same size. After you do that and put on the new hoses, don't re-install the tank until you try the sprayer again. If the spray still doesn't work, either your nozzles are clogged...there is garbage at the bottom of the reservoir...or your pump is bad. A single piece of copper wire actually works better for clearing nozzles than a sewing needle.

On another note: Remember when people were running those twin double-wipers years ago? The reason that fad stopped, even though this setup worked really well, was because the extra drag was burning out wiper motors.

EDIT: My advice is do NOT try to remove the squirters. You may have to strip a piece of copper wire from an old electrical cord though, and peel off a strand (or two) of it to help clear the squirters.

I am sorry to contradict Xoxs in this matter, since he is usually absolutely correct. He posted "Yes, the hose must be hidden" In this case the hose is NOT hidden. On a few of these trucks the wiper fluid id delivered by a little known process of Gandolphian Osmosis Delivery System. G.O.F.D.S. What trim package is your truck? Apparently they employed a wizard at one of the Nissan assembly plants to put a special wiper fluid delivery system spell on your truck. Since yours has quit working, we can only assume that your particular wizard has died. You will probably need to find some hose and such to convert your system to the M.F.D.S, or Mortal Fluid Delivery System.
