1994 Nissan D21, 4x4 King Cab, 2" RC lift -
I posted a while back that I had a banging sound only on left turns and I thought it was the T-Bar rubbing up against the tension rod. This does not appear the case. So now I hear what sounds like a sheet metal banging sound when I make most turns (the best way to describe it is sounds like if you were to stand on your hood and the sheet metal bends and pops back). Doesn't happen all of the time, but most of the time. I cannot replicate it when parked and just turning the wheels (only when driving) so I cannot see where the nose actually is coming from. I had a Rough Country 1.5-2" Suspension Lift Kit installed on it and it made that noise after the install. I took it back to 4WP and they said it was the T-Bar rubbing against the tension rod but that was the extent of their help. Any ideas what this may be? Is it possible they cranked up the Torsion bars too much and this is what is making that noise? Possibly something is loose or too tight? Has anyone had any similar issues with this lift or anything specific I should look out for with it? (I am a not an expert in this area by any means) Any suggestions would be helpful as I am at a loss. |

Are you at full lock when turning?

Do you mean are my hubs locked in (if so, no, my hubs are not locked in)? When I hear that banging I don't have to turn very much to hear it. It can be a minor turn or turned all the way.

I think he means "full turn lock", as in the wheel is all the way, right or left. There's a stop there, like a bolt, that rubs and can make an ungodly noise when sprung against. Rarely expected by some...
Hubs not locked... still the 1/2 shafts have to turn, right? ...and the noise happened after you lifted it, right? Worn 1/2 shafts, inside or out? (wondering and thinking outloud)

Yeah, the noise happened only after the lift was put on. I haven't looked at the h shafts but can take a look and see. Anything specific that I can look for to indicate that may bet he problem or needs replacing?

2x4 here, no help, sorry... maybe someone with a 4x will chime up.
edit: Can you lift both tires in the front, rotate and spin. See if you can find the noise this way?
