JP your engine came from what vehicle? It's not from an xterra is it? The alternator on yours is on the passenger side, on the xterra the alt. is on the driver side. The v belt is for the power steering lol. Sorry

I've contacted the seller; he did not have any information about what vehicle this came out of.
![]() Correct, though. The V-belt is for the power steering, and the alternator is on the passenger's side.

so does this mean that its NOT a JDM motor?
does the V-belt portion of the pulley bolt on to the rest of it? |

Best I can tell, the V-belt is milled in along with the rest of the pulley.
Still a Japanese Domestic Motor. Straight from Japan. That's why the importer can't tell me what it came out of.

im not sure it matters but it was just a curiosity. is there a give-away that ID's it as JDM like no EGR or something?
btw, while i cant see any bolts on the pulley the fact that theres a really little gap between the V-belt pulley and teh ribbed belt parts says to me that its press fit together or something. otherwise thered be no little gap like in the piktar. |

Not to my knowledge. > piktar Ah. I see what you mean. I don't have another Harmonic Balancer to compare it to besides the one still in service on my VG30E ...which is different.

id start to be concerned that i got swindled. happened to me once. bought a "good" motor for 500. turns out someone spun a bearing bad, swapped the importer tags and sold it to me. bogus. good thing i was only buying it for the block and head.

So, because the seller didn't bother asking what vehicle it came out of, you think the whole engine sale was a scam?

well, maybe not on purpose from him but id start looking for markings. like, id check the vin on the block and whether or not there were EGR ports and then compare it to pictures of known JDM motors. cause normally they make a little more power due to either slightly higher compression pistons, or the lack of EGR or things of that nature.
this just makes me raise an eyebrow and id do some digging. im not saying you got scammed, im saying theres an OUTSIDE chance its not a "JDM" motor. whether or not that actually matters is completely up to you. |
