Quick update.

VG33 headers cannot be used.

The header path flows dead center of the motor mounts.

Will be using the Pacesetter headers.

On the VG33E, I cleaned and reused the VG33E oil pan.

Using the VG30E oil pan would have required fabricating a custom oil pickup tube. The VG30E engine's oil pickup tube bolts on one side of the crankshaft. The VG33E has the oil pump on the other side and in front, so the oil pickup tube has to mount on the other side.

Long story short: I was not able to reuse the VG30E oil pan.

Since I went with the VG33E oil pan, the cross member hit.

Solution: Fab a cross member.

Pictures coming later.

So I will run into these same issues on my swap then. Looking forward to some photos.

I thought Nissanut solved this problem by using a combination of parts:

"I bolted a D22 Frontier oil filter mount onto a V40 Quest oil pump with oil pickup tube from a D22 and a D21 oil pan. Pure bolt on!"

He had the luxury of having both tubes in front of him and the VG30E oil pan off so he could modify a tube to fit.

I looked and looked for a VG30E oil pan before starting, but I couldn't find one anywhere.

As soon as I get the pictures, I'll start attaching them. I'm just reporting the progress as the shop comes to issues.

They did say that the engine cranked up the first try, and that they were able to get the cams broke in (20-minutes at 2000 RPM). The headers are venting to open air, waiting for a crossover pipe to be built, so it isn't road ready yet.

They are hoping for Friday.

And, I see Nissan Nut also kept the VG30E crank.

I would have had to disassembled the engine and sent the crank out for machine work for it to fit the VG33E.

that's true, forgot how he did that. He did compare the pick up tubes ( and everything else in another section)

Shop called at 12:46pm saying they were just going to take it out for a test run, and then call me back with details on picking it up.

It's 2:19pm now. Either they are doing a lot of driving or they encountered problems.

The only issue they will not fix are the AC lines. The VG33 uses a different AC Compressor, so the VG30 lines will not fit up. I got some VG33 lines on order (suction and discharge), but it could be a week before they show up. Once they arrive, he can splice the old lines with the new lines to make the connections.

Dang, so you can't do a pulley swap from the 33 compressor to the 30 compressor? That sucks. I've spent a ton of money on my AC system already and didn't really want to have to tear all that junk apart again.

Oh no! You can certainly do that.

What you cannot do is buy a new VG33 clutch separately. They don't sell those, it seems, so you would have to buy a VG33 compressor with the clutch, swap the clutch with your VG30 compressor, and you are good.

You could try buying a used VG33 compressor off eBay like I did, then the guy takes the pulley off and finds out the pulley is crap, so you still got to buy a new VG33 compressor with the pulley.
