Default Project "bad decisions"

i know its not a Nissan, but the toyota sites seem so dead these days, plus this is my home lol. So forgive me ahead of time, i still have my Durango also. So onto it.........

I picked up my best friends longtime project 1986 Toyota standard cab. I am trading my daily driver stock sonoma for this truck, which is where the name comes from lol. But hes burned out on it, and getting rid of it, and i hate to see it go to someone who is gonna destroy it.

The story: Best friend bought this when he was 16, all stock. I drove it home for him because he didnt have a license yet. He put the 20s on it and started buying parts. Long story short, after having it bagged, and re-bagged, them attempting a 305 swap, it sat and sat, and he lost interest and motivation. He swapped a 89 model 22r back into it thinking it would help, but it didnt. He listed it for sale, and i just couldnt watch it go. So i told him to bring it to me and id bring him my sonoma. Being my best friend and knowing it wasnt daily ready, he said ill bring it to you, and you work on it and do what u want to it, and when its daily ready and youre ready to make the deal, then bring me yours. So thats where i am, im working on it, but still currently driving my sonoma everyday till this is ready.

Its an 86 std cab yota, cando upper and lower arms. 20x7.5 KMC wheels, rear bagged up at Metal Worx a couple years ago. 89 22r, with full wiring harness an cluster from 89 model toyota.

here are some starting pics. sorry if they are big.

bringing home the 20s

Rear bag setup, was all nice and painted but its been sitting in the sun for a few years. nothing some elbow grease and more paint wont fix

swapped out the ugly slider for a smooth glass

put a brand new weber carb on it to fix a stuttering issue

donkey lift

and thats where it is now. i have an "american" style bed im going to get without the rails at the top which will look a ton better. new fenders and going to swap out the core support and front end, for a 92-95 4runner headlights grille and core support, with a 92-95 2wd bumper and valance. Gonna do graphite grey tweed interior for a little old school feel, paint it and drive this bitch. gotta juggle working on this and the durango though so it may be slow at times but thats the low down.

nice yota! Doesn't look to far from daily driver status - hows the front setup? Add a couple more valves and drive it!

its not far away. needs turn signals hooked back up, wiper motor put back in and a tiny amount of tuning on that new weber. front end is solid. lays oil pan cross member, so it needs a small Z but its fine for now. cando tubular uppers and lowers, no shocks up front at the moment, but it really hasnt needed them so far. ill will end up adding some though just for peice of mind.

That truck is my favorite body style, I personally like the Japanese bed better than the American version (if you keep the front 2wd fenders). I have thought about buying one for a daily or maybe a 620.

Nice truck, looks good
