Default Key doesn't work in door lock

I have a '94 D21 that has 1 key (looks like a remade key). It starts the car fine. It unlocks the drivers door but cannot lock it. It cannot lock or unlock the passenger door. I am assuming this is a poorly cut key, but not sure what I can do about it. Ideas?

It could just be a poorly cut key, and you can try to wear it down a little with a wire brush on a bench grinder. It could also be that the lock, linkages, and latch are gummed up and need to be cleaned and lubricated. That’s pretty common on these trucks and will lead to broken door handles and broken clips on the linkage rods due to the extra resistance to movement.

Couldn't a Nissan dealership or a good locksmith cut a brand-new key from the key code stamped on a door lock cylinder????

I had the same issue with my 87, when I first got it. Turns out it was like Alabama_Lowlife stated. The plastic clips inside the door had gotten brittle over the years and crumbled when I tried to use the key. When I replaced the door handles, I also repaired/replaced the pieces that were faulty. I got parts from the JY and have been trouble free for about 2 years now.

Cool. Thanks as always. I'll take that door panel off and clean it up and see if that helps.

Yes, that'll be my last option. Thanks for the advice!

Awesome. Sounds good. I'll take it apart this weekend and clean and replace as necessary. Thanks!
