Default Electric fans

Im thinking of doing an electric fan swap to my 4x4 just to make sure it stays cool as possible. How would I go about doing this and in reality is an electric fan swap better or worse.

that thread is kinda helpful. Any auto electric shop can fit an e fan to ur radiator. It frees up about 5hp, and with a properly set thermostat in ur upper hose, u will never need to worry about overheating, unless ur fuse blows. U can have dual stage fan speeds, or like mine single stage tornado which cools my truck back to normal temp in about 4 seconds. Do it!

I think you'd be just fine with the old-school mechanical fan. Honestly I would start by going over the entire cooling system and replacing all the old hoses with new ones and replace the water pump and thermostat if they haven't been done already. It will do a lot to prevent future leaks and overheating. Replacing the fan clutch is also good cheap insurance.

A V6 radiator is a good upgrade, though. When I replaced my 27 year old radiator I bought one for a v6 hardbody with a 1" core (the automatic one is like $60 vs. $100 and change for the manual one, you can just buy the auto and ignore the transmission line fittings). It drops right in but you might have to drill a couple new holes in the fan shroud for it to line up properly.

If staying stock-mechanical, check to see if the fan-clutch is bad, and that a fan shroud is in place. Also check the upstream/front side of the radiator/AC condensor/grille (bugs, leaves, etc.) to make sure air can flow through easily.

There's a lot of good ideas in this post, I'll add a few more. Use fresh anti freeze, water wetter and drain & flush the block completely via the bolt(s) on the side. I've done most of the things listed here and my engines don't overheat and I live in Phoenix.

A factory cooling system that is properly maintained and operating correctly will cool the engine without need for any modifications. My 97 would maintain temperature while sitting in traffic with the A/C running in the summer here.

I'm going to pile on to what the others have said. If you have an overheating problem, an e-fan will not help.
I've heard reasoning that on a 4x4 it allows you to turn off the fan in deep water crossings. In 12 years of wheeling, including water as deep as three feet, I never had to turn off the fan.
I've been down that road, and I can honestly say that I never felt a performance gain. A blown fuse actually CAUSED me an overheat that took out my radiator, and later caused a head gasket to fail.

When I swapped to the V8, I went to great lengths to make room for the stock mechanical fan. I'm done with that e-fan mess. When I'm in the middle of nowhere, my junk has to work.

whatever you get, make sure it uses an internal temp probe and not that stupid one you mount to the outside of the radiator.
