Red face 1988 d21 4x4...need vg30i to vg30e swap tips, links....send it all!

My good ole vg30i is done for....looking to do a semi-painless swap to get back on the road. From what I've gathered vg30e is my best bet. So for anyone who's been there done that... tell me about it! Open to all links, suggestions (reasonable, of course I'd rather vg33 swap but no time!) Thanks all!😚

VG33i would probably be easier.

I'm looking into the same thing and wanting to do a VG33er of sorts. You will need a Z car ECM or at least a MPFI truck ECM, the entire 'e' plenum and fuel rail and do custom wiring. The guys at JWT recommended a Z car ECM for my needs as it would plug right in and be easy to tune for my setup.

Its not just plug and play. The tune its self is $500.

So is the motor worn out or is it the TBI giving you issues. IF so, swap it to a weber 2 BBL carb. To go with that, use a DUI Distributor made specifically for that swap. You got the intake manifold already. Easy peazy!!!
Or just find a better condition VG30E motor, swap on your intake and the rest I spoke of earlier.

Basically it burnt oil like crazy and I ended up stupidly running her dry one day, crazy ticking on accelleration. Got loud as I pulled over n it died. Now it'll crank but won't run. I did put oil in when i heard it but think I just ran it w none too long not paying attention. Idk. Maybe im going the wrong route?

Sounds like the motor is gone to me. I'm a fan of the VG33 but it has its own problems during the swap. Easiest would be to find another VG30 and plop it in with your existing TBI system.
