So the clutch pedal has been sticking randomly. I dug in to my parts stash and installed a new exedy clutch master cylinder and a new slave cylinder hose. I also deleted the damper. Also changed the fuel filter.
Last week in the snow (i went into the TN mountains and got in about 5 or 6 inches), the coil got wet and caused a massive backfire two different times. The driver inner fender has a big hole…the only rust the thing has was under the coil. All that stuff was relocated and should not be a problem ever again. |

Got the muffler replaced last week. I went with a turbo style. My local muffler shop came through again. 80 bucks and a mere 30 minutes later i was out the door. He even capped off the old catalytic converter air injection pipe.
I got to walk under the old girl while she was on the lift. I heard some clunking in the rear when cornering. The rear roll bar end links were gone. I ordered new ones and they got here yesterday. This afternoon i grabbed my grinder and cut them off and installed the new ones. No more tambourine noises in the rear. I will know in the morning if the new end links fixed the slight vibration that showed up around 60. |

Left front grease seal failed. The wheel bearings were toasted. It sounded all kinds of crunchy and man it was roaring. I fixed that Thursday evening then went on a 225 mile round trip Friday morning. I took a country back road trip to oak ridge TN. I snagged a 2001 frontier trans and tcase for 400 bucks. Also ordered a new clutch. The screaming trans will be replaced soon.
Also ordered the right side tie rod ends and a new adjuster. Gonna change those when the ball joints get replaced in the next couple of weeks. The old girl got just under 21mpg average. It lost a little with a 400 pound trans inside. I had a tail wind going up and had to push through a 20mpg headwind coming back. The pisser is it used a little more then 11 gallons of fuel, but that cost me almost 50 bucks. |

Also ordered some of the parts to fix the elongated torsion arm cups. After all this is done, a disk brake rear end swap is next.

4 wheeled her ass off today. Then I finally replaced the AC condenser. It has been sitting in the box stuffed in the corner for more than a year.

It had a leak at the low pressure fitting. After I washed her off today, The AC wasnt working all that great on the ride home (windows closed). I kept it filled last summer and the vent temp was 38 degrees. Gotta grab one more can of refrigerant today and that should be enough.

Got the right side balljoints and both right side tie rod ends replaced last night. The lower balljoint was really worn out. All the pickle fork did was stretch the collar around the joint. It would not split. I had to take the spindle over to my neighbor. We used his hydraulic press plates to keep the spindle even while he pounded the stud out with a big ass handheld sledgehammer.
I started that adventure about 8am and got done around 12am. Then I fired up the charcoal grill at 1am and the wife and I had sirloins and chicken cutlets for a really late dinner. |

Went back to the belt driven cooling fan. Been having issues with the AC, particularly in stop and go traffic. The compressor isn’t producing the correct pressures unless the RPMs are at cruising levels. It should maintain them at 1000 RPMs and it fails to do that. I just wish these AC systems had shutoffs to isolate the compressor with a suction fitting to pull a vacuum while it was inline but isolated. Damn freon is 9 bucks a can now.
Since I hardly drive the truck, it may donate it’s new compressor to the pathfinder. That sure is a cheaper way of fixing the current problem. The compressor is 250 or so online or 700 yes I typed 700 at the local big box parts stores. The next time a vg powered d21 makes it to lkq, I will go get a used compressor. |
