Default I didnt want to have to rebuild...

Figured I aught to make a build log and not clutter up the D21 section with my ramblings.

Quick synopsis of what has happened to this point.

Had some clattering and found piston #1 is angry.

Super blurry photo of the clunk missing from the piston. Yeah, thats the top ring. No bueno. Decided its a good opportunity for more powa! VG33 time.

The plan:
-Find a JDM or low miles VG33e ideally from a Frontier or Xterra
-TBI convert it
-Install cams. VG30 cams if mine are good. H256 cams if mine are not.
-Headers. Reuse my VG30 headers.

So Far:
-Ive struck out on a complete motor
-Ive been sent a mostly incomplete rust bucket

Parts on hand:
- Silver header paint. Couldnt find blue in this town. My headers will be repainted silver.
- Blue engine enamel. Accessories and whatever else will be blue to match plug wires and air filter cover.
- Felpro intake gaskets for VG30
- MPact ceramic clutch for FS5R30a. Specs are identical for VG30 and VG33. Part numbers are different. Ceramic clutch is rated for 25-50% more power.
- Picking up alternator and power steering brackets tomorrow from a local yard. Brackets are from a 2002 XTerra VG33e. This will make it so I dont need to grab a motor configured properly. These are the hard parts to find.
- Also grabbing some Warn hubs from a Pathy while Im there. Might as well.

So far Ive managed to fix a headlight that wasnt leveled properly and resolder the demon eye on the drivers side.

Brackets are here. I had no idea that the alternator bracket was so massive. Planning to sand blast them down and paint them with blue engine enamel.

On the plus side I did get some Warn hubs for $60/pr from the yard too. They also need a good cleaning that Ill do later this week. Need more brake cleaner first. They seem to be in great shape. Going to remove all the dirt and grease then regrease and install. Also like the look of them better.

John, if you do grease them use a VERY small amount.
I prefer to soak mine in a bath of gear oil before installing them.
If the grease gets wet it turns into paste and they'll never work right

Yes, the alt bracket holds the a/c compressor too if the vehicle was spec'd with a/c.

Dont worry, Im not one to smother things in grease. Looked like the last owner slightly over filled it but they seem to work fine. Im going to have to 3D print some hub handles now to make it easier to spin. Mostly for kicks. Might be nice when in the snow.

I couldnt believe how big the bracket is. Now Ive got a nice solid mount for a centrifugal supercharger if I ever get the cash to go that route.

That's where I got the idea from. Going to design and print one in PLA.

Painted my brackets today after some lunch time sand blasting. Hope to have photos tonight. Still need to heat cure them.

I have to say I admire your meticulousness. No way I would have the attention span or the patience to get every little detail absolutely perfect. The engine and drivetrain are one thing but everything else after that is a perk. Guess I'm more into the functional beater look myself.
