First of all, hello everybody!
Been reading the forum for a while but only registered today. Recently bought a manual 1988 4wd Hardbody here in Japan, and it's my first time buying a 4x4 vehicle. Has a TD23 2.4 Diesel engine. Since don't know what the previous owner did with it, I'm starting to change all the oils and fluids, but so far only managed to change the engine oil and powersteering oil. Checked the owners manual, but it's my first time doing this, so would like to hear the opinion from you guys. Oils and fluids to change: -Manual Transmission oil (Nissan Gear Oil MP) -Tansfer oil (Nissan Gear Oil MP-G Special 75w-90) -Brake fluid (Nissan Brake Fluid) -Manual Steering oil(This is written in the owners manual, but not sure what's this) -Differencial Oil (it says that FWD vehicles should use the same oil as the manual transmission. The RWD should use Nissan Hypoid gear). My hardbody is part-time 4x4, should use the oil for FWD vehicles? ![]() Am I missing anything?? ![]() Last edited by PFDSA; 11-25-2020 at 01:12 AM. Reason: Forgot to mention it's a diesel |

![]() Ditto -- looks to be in great shape. But the steering wheel seems to be on the wrong side! ![]()

Geez, that's a nice truck. I've only seen one like that here in Washington state, USA.
Only help I can toss out for you is that it is impossible to overfill either the manual transmission, or the differential. Can't be done. The manual trans has an overflow on it. It is a short metal line that looks like a crooked finger, pointing DOWN. It is on the passenger side of the trans, up forward, and near the top of the trans. Sometimes there is a short black hose on it, pointing down of course. Any overfill just gets tossed out there. No pressure much in a manual anyway. The gears move, and the gear oil just gets thrown around in there a bit. The differential is the same thing. On the BACK side of the diff, up high on the Driver's side is a relief valve. If there is too much gear oil in there, or air...it just comes out through the relief valve.
