I sold a throttle body to a member here (Stanley) that I had on my 86.5. It came from an 87. He has an 87. (I still have my original, which I believe is from an 87).
He is telling me that his original has an 8 pin connector, while mine has a 6-pin. This sounds vaguely familiar, but I can't remember clearly if they can be interchanged by just swapping connector housings. Has anyone here run into this? I think the difference is that the 87 has more pins because of the idle solenoid. He also said that his original split into three whereas the one I sent splits into two. He lost me on that one. He is supposed to send me some pictures, but in the meantime I am trying to figure it out. Anyone have a photo of their 87 TB connections?

#1 is my TB, with a blue wire connecting to the idle-up solenoid valve (I think), #2 is the one Reserector sent me, with an empty hole. #3 is my 8-pin vs. his 6-pin.
I think I've got to swap in the original 8-pin harness as well as the idle up solenoid valve. |

did one of the trucks have AC and the other one without AC? that might be the difference with the two idle solenoids.

Mine did have AC, but doesn't seem to have ever been wired for an idle up solenoid. Early production change?
Thinking back (not easy at my age), I seem to recall swapping the connectors to make it fit. Should be fairly easy to swap back. I hate that he has to do that, though. Had I realized, I probably could have found the connector and switched it for him, or at least let him know ahead of time.

One may have been built in Japan, and the other in Smyrna. You got a mix of either for the first few years of production. That is why they "used" to ask for the VIN, as parts were sometimes different...

I hadn't though of that. I know that the truck was assembled in Smyrna, but there is no way of knowing where the parts came from at that time.
