Default How to install 3 piece billet grille inserts from ebay

Well for valentines day Jenn got me the billet grilles from ebay. So i figured i would show everyone what it took for me to install them on a OEM grille. The first step is to cut the 3 middle sections out. I took david29 advise and used a hack saw blade by hand and cut them out. I taped everything out so as to not scratch my grille to much.

Then you have to take a dremel and grind down the rest of the grille pieces left so it is flush.

Then after everything was smooth i test fitted the 3 inserts. Well to no surprise the middle one fit perfect and the outer ones didnt fit and where sitting crooked. So i figured out where they were hitting the grille and taped the out edges of the billet bars off just enough for them to fit perfect. I probably only cut off 1/8" off of 5 bars. Then i cut them and they turned out like this.

After i was happy with how they looked i taped the faces of the grilles.

Then painted the sides of the bars i had to cut as to make it look factory again. After they were all cut and paint for both the left and right sections this is what they look like.

So sometimes i over do things but hell its my truck this step is really not needed. But I decided to tape the 3 insert wholes out back to where theres a lip on the grille and paint it black.

After everything dried i started fitting the grilles in there spots marking the mounting holes and drilling them out. For the most part the end of the mounts on the grilles has to line up with the end of where you drill on your grille. Again to make mine look a little better i had to dremel out the wholes on the grille inserts, and slot the holes i drilles thru the grille. Heres is my finished product.

If you have any questions i am always on here hit me up i am willing to help. But i will not do it for you lol. All in all if i had to do it again i would pay someone or just buy a pre assembled one.

so i worked on my grill and got the inserts to fit, but lo-and behold a problem.
the mounting tabs on the inserts do not match up with the tabs on the grill.
any one have this problem?
im thinking maybe put a rectangular washer on it.
any ideas?

i need to see picks because the holes on the bracket should be right to the edge of the back side of the grille. Mine were pretty much right on.

mine are not inset at all the are actually a little out. If you want to inset them youll have to drill new holes in the billets pieces. But think about this why do you want to inset the grille billets when you cant do the same with the bumper???? To me it looks good but weird.
