Default Inner fenders

Do the inner fenders of a 95 Nissan hardbody fit the fenders for a pathfinder?
And what’s the real purpose of an inner fender?

The rubber piece? It keeps road grime and rocks, etc from flying off the road and tires into the engine compartment. They also keep water away from the relays.

And I do not see why they would not swap between the pathys and the trucks.
