The roll cage is totally re finished. I dont like how weak the mounts for it seem to be (just bolted to the bed... which is like 18 ga steel) so I'm going to well 16 ga steel to the bottom of the bed to make the mount better. I guess I should bed line the bed before I re-install the cage.

I also re-painted the lights factory black and am re-wiring the whole deal, the original wiring was crusty as hell. I'm an engineer so I have a good bit of wiring experience so dont expect any half-assery here.

New front lights ready as well, the old ones were cracked and totally ruined. These, against my better judgement, are LED.

For the rust in the rear quarter panels I: ground down the rust with an angle grinder, welded in new steel, ground on the welds to level, sealed the steel, body filler over the sanded sealer, sanded the filler level, putty/glaze to make it as smooth as possible, sealer over the filler/glaze, primer. Now I need to get some color matched paint and get my hvlp set up.

I also have been slowly applying Meguiars number 7 to the truck. This stuff is god damn magical. My hood went from terrible and super faded to quite glossy without ANY abrasive material whatsoever. Just the magical oils in number 7. I then waxed over to "seal" it.

I'll be picking up an abrasive blaster soon to get to re-finishing the wheels. Cheers.

Keep up the good work. With any luck, I may be joining the club Saturday.

Best of luck, Alabama! Post pictures of it even if you're not successful!

Got my abrasive blaster. I'm pretty stoked on it, but abrasive is pretty pricey and it seems to do best in detailed areas I can't get sand paper into easily. So there's that. I was going to repaint my wheels silver (I asked silver or black on the D21 facebook page and went with silver), but when when I stripped the wheels I thought they looks pretty great as just metal. So for now I'm leaving them and one day when I'm super bored I'll polish them up nice.

I have everything together now except heat shrink to re-install the rollbar and lights. So tomorrow I'll start that and hopefully replace my transfer case fluid.

I also am picking up a new rear diff plug tomorrow from Nissan since my current once is smashed and leaking.

Just requested. I'm on Nissan Hardbody D21. I swear there are at least 4 big FB pages for every car I've owned.

Minor Update: I'm hoping to drive this thing 240 miles this weekend. Prayers are welcome if you're into that kind of thing lol.

Today I welded in some sheet steel under the roll bar as there was a good bit of rust there. Mounted back up the roll bar and ran a new wire through it for the lights. Gonna get the roll bar and front lights wired up tomorrow and shine it up nice with some #7 and some wax.

Here are the wheels now that they're a little better looking (IMO):

I realize the backs aren't done yet. I'll get to it haha.

I also need to pick up my diff plug and do the transfer case flush still.

So this evening I attempted to drive this truck 112 miles. It made it 40 of those miles before promptly totally breaking down. I'm not sure what happened, but I'll be taking a closer look soon to figure it out.

It did get a sweet ride on a rollback back home though. So that's something.
This happened 6 hours after I added this truck to my insurance, therefore I have concluded that adding trucks to insurance is bad for them.

If the engine is kaput I'll be looking for a VG30i to keep it original as possible.

Although a VG33E swap is tempting...
