I have had my SR20 for just over 8 years, I put maybe 1500 miles on it since I got it. All my problems seem to be computer related or starting. I never heard weird sounds, found metal in the oil or looked like I had a 5 alarm fire from smoke comming out the exahust. From everything I was told in Japan it cost too much to run an engine past 50,000km. Its like you had to replace the cat and all emissions related items. It was cheaper to buy a new car than get the old one refitted for inspection.

If I got an engine with only 50,000km I figure I am lucky because I can't believe everything I was told. If I had the choice would I do it again, probalby not but you never know. You can get almost as much power from the 2.4 after you turbo charge it correctly, about the only thing I can say is with stock internals the SR20 can hold more power before it goes boom, but eventually both will grenade if you dogg them too much.

For me it was wanting something different with great power potential and to keep a Nissan motor, I wanted an RB but in FL you need A/C. Unless you got mad money you couldn't have both (not saying its not possible but too costly for my taste). I have seen one hardbody with an RB26 in it. It was not running and didn't even have the turbos installed much less any electrical stuff. His firewall was pushed back at least six inches and if he had to replace the rear spark plug he had to remove the wiper cowl first.

I just hope once I am able to drive it on a normal basis I will be happy with the overall outcome.
I'm not an SR20 fan personally, with great potential comes a big price tag. I've heard some horror stories of oil pumps going out and ruining the motors and other stuff. Have you considered going back to KA and boosting that? I love my setup and it's super reliable and easy to work on. Not to mention getting parts is way easier and cheaper.

Well I have spent too much to go back you might say. The main problem with the SR20 on the oil starvation issue is the oil pan. The pickup is in the lower sump, even letting the motor sit on the oil pan can cause the oil pickup to get clogged. Unfotunately most people can still read good oil pressure until the engine starts to fly apart on this issue. Once you notice the oil presure is low its too late, of course most people don't have a guage at first when doing a swap and just want to run the snot out of it because they are addicted to the power.

I have a complete aftermarket computer plus its installed in my new frame so at this point I am married to it but think I won't mind after I get all the bugs worked out. I picked up an extra block to rebuild just incase I have an oops, I have a motor on standby. I agree its harder to get some parts but quite a few of the online performance import motor companies do carry things like water pumps. A bonus for the SR20 Vs the RB series is one of SR cousins was produced for the USA, just not the turbo version and quite a few parts are the same for both. I just have to be aware if something fails I can't go to NAPA and get it locally, I will have to order it. Most of the time it will be cheaper this way but if your in a pinch your screwed (aka at a show 500 miles from home and poof).

I just have to ask nis720, what type of power are you getting from your setup?

After my last post the joke is on me. Guess I should watch more movies, well at least remember parts of them anyway.

These might help refocus a few thoughts
