Default SE tailgate trim....don’t worry, this isn’t a “where can I find one” thread

Hey guys, can anyone tell me what material the trim panel is made out of???

Spoiler alert!!! I know they are made out of metal, I have 2 of them in my garage. I know the pathfinder ones are plastic (they have 2 different styles, the newer one is plastic, not sure about the older ones. I know the frontier ones are plastic.

Back story, I’m having a debate on Facebook with a couple of guys that swear they have one and it’s made of plastic.

Well, unless these 'metal' ones are aluminum, you can tell the difference by doing a magnet test.

The one on my truck is plastic with rubber trim where it meets the tailgate. The last one I pulled from a pathy was plastic too.

Aftermarket repops might be plastic...when they were still available.

Flexes and scratches like.plastic unless it has a metal sheet behind it with a plastic coating. Texture is roughish and only a wax for plastics works where as a wax for painted metals turns white immediately and is hell to remove.

The pathfinder one I pulled for a buddy was plastic. Off an 86.5 pathy. It was like holding a giant flat noodle.

I took a look at the SE tailgate I got off CL. It looks like it's aluminum that's covered/painted with the black satin finish. A magnet won't stick to it but I looked at the edge and you can see shiny metal underneath.

This tailgate looks almost perfect so I don't think the trim is aftermarket but could be wrong.
