Default Rearend issues

I don't mean mine.... but my D40 is making an odd noise ONLY in reverse. Almost like it's grinding. I thought maybe the truck needed to be greased because we've been having a lot of rain and cold weather in NorCal. Any suggestions on what it may be? 06 V6 with 105K.

Can you walk me through it? I'm not sure where to check.

Raise rear axle.
Remove rear wheels.
Remove rear brake caliper assemblies.
Remove rear rotors.
Check parking brake shoe linings.

Although the first thing I would do is verify where the noise is coming from. I would place the rear axle on jack stands, have someone listening under the vehicle taking care not to come close to the rear wheels, and put the vehicle in reverse until the noise can be identified. Check points are the transmission, driveshaft, differential, brakes, and bearings.

I thought it was the yoke but no way to confirm. Differential maintenance was about 90K but I didn't swap any parts. The truck was practically sitting for 3 years after that & I started driving it as a DD again. I'll have some help this afternoon to chevk it out. Thanks for the help! It's highly appreciated!

While inspecting the Fro tier after a 600 mi drive... My Dad found a SHITLOAD of fishing line of some sort on drivers side. No bueno.. I didn't see it. He had to remove the rear wheel to snip it off everything.
