Default My first Nissan (datsun actually)

This was my second car, and first Nissan, it was a 80 Datsun 310GX 5 speed. This was around the time Datsun was changing their name to Nissan as I recall this car having both names on it.

I hated how the back window looked so I had louvers put on and I think it made it look 100% better. Than I made it into my want-a-be rally car by installing some big off road lights on it. Lights were Hella Rally 2000 pencil beam lenses on top of the bumper and Dick Cepek C-808 fogs under the bumper, (still have the Hella Rally 2000's)

It had Pirelli P77 tires with a tread that would be similar to the Mickey Thompson tires of today with the side biter tread on the sidewall.

I had a Momo leather shift knob on the shifter, a Alpine 2 knob radio in it with a FAS EQ/booster, also had 1 Nakamichi PA3002 amp in the rear hatch area (75 x 2) that went to a MTX single woofer (10") stereo box, it had a2 midranges and 2 horn tweeters but shared a single woofer.

I also had a dual Monza tip put on it.

Only have a few pics of it:

crappy pic I scanned a polaroid:

Cool looking old car.

So, a 310. Does that mean it had a 3.10 Liter engine? Straight 6? God!

The 310 was cool. I remember them from when I was a kid.

I like the style I had compared to the later one's that were less round.

I remember my dad telling me on our way home with it saying something about turning onto our street "you may have to down shift twice",

I guess he was comparing it to his 69 Chevy stepside he had at the time with the 3 speed and straight six.

It was my first "foreign" car ( his too !) and first manual tranny, he taught me to drive a stick on his Chevy pickup, I had a hard time with the shifter on the column, his boss had like a 70ish Chevy pickup with the shifter on the floor which I had no problem driving but I think the clutch was on it's way out, his boss had a tendency to ride the clutch.
