Default Harmonic Balancer removal and install

Hey guys I have an 99 4cyl 2wd Fronty, looking to remove and install a harmonic balancer. I see there's a halfmoon insert in the pkg for the new one. Does that go inthe slot? Also what tools are needed? The oem doesn't have the screws in it for the puller. Also reinstall tips. I have the 27mm socket breaker bar. Going to try the strap wrapped around the balancer. If that don't work is the starter bump method better? Thanks in advance

I’ve never messed with the KA24DE in the frontiers. The factory service manual shows a 2 jaw puller for removing the crank pulley. I’m not sure what shape the woodruff key is on the DE. I usually use an impact wrench to loosen the crank bolt, but I’ve use the started bump method as well. I’d start by trying the break it loose with the transmission in gear and the parking brake set. Sometimes they surrender easily.

It's exactly the same as removing it from a KA24E. I think they might even be the same part#. The woodruff key usually stays on the crank snout, but not always. It's no big deal to put it back in if it comes out.

I'd second Alabama_lowlife's recommendation and put it in gear (if it's a stick) and set the parking brake to hold the engine still while you break the bolt loose. A lot of the time the crank pulley really isn't on there that tight and it's more a matter of pulling it straight out than anything else. You can also try tapping it with a dead blow hammer while pulling out in it to get it moving.
