I am new to D21s, and am looking to buy one. I noticed that some trucks have 31" tires from factory and some have 235s. Do the factory 31" equipped trucks have any suspension or gearing differences, or is it just like a 235 equipped truck?

Most 4x4 trucks were specced with 31s. I think it's easier to find an early one with 235s. The early 235 trucks may have a different axle ratio than the ones with 31s. Generally you'll find 4.3:1 and 4.6:1 axles. Both were available with the manual. Auto trucks, I believe, were the 4.6:1. Suspension should be the same.
My truck had 235s and I went to 31s. I have a 4.1:1 axle ratio. The change made my speedo dead on.

I've got a '96 4x4
4.6:1 axle ratio with factory 235/75/r15 tires I've got a spare set of Chevy rims that I am planning to put a new set of 31's on. But that will make my speedometer read 65 MPH when I am really doing 69.5 MPH.

My 86.5 5spd had 31s factory, 4.1:1 ratio. If you're looking for specific options looking up the VIN is the best idea. A lot of these trucks seem to have random options. Mine has just about everything you could get on the 86.5 but still has open diffs for instance.
