sorry but you are wrong. there was nothing wrong with the suggestion per se... it just didn't address the parameters. in a free form discussion , suggestions are made and analyzed for possibilities. in this case his suggestion would not work for the obvious reason. that doesn't make him a bad guy or unhelpful. just gets him thinking in another direction. don't take this stuff so personally... I was in this biz for 30 years and being wrong or missing something is just part of the game. in this case I am clearly missing something beyond the most basic . if it was easy , I wouldn't be here asking for help. im looking for the guy that says " oh yeah... that happened once when a mouse chewed thru wire number 2367 in the diagram on page 72 of the manual " or something... something beyond the basic.

and yes... I am arrogant a bit because I am really good at what I do yet here I am , walking home for the last two days. it is immensely frustrating to run up against something so seemingly simple but that I can't find.

addendum: problem solved. broken wire in the harness where it makes a sharp turn. fuse was good on both sides but signal never reached the source. thanks for the suggestions. I appreciate the efforts.

i know you said you ran electrical tests......but did you check the alternator? like i said in my earlier post, these trucks do strange things when the charging system is malfunctioning.

Well that was exciting. Mechanics should always own at least 2 cars because they usually drive junk.

That's just great advice across the board for anyone who drives old beaters.

A lot of people on here suggest whacking the starter with a hammer.

If it works afterwards, you know the starter is on the way out.

im definitely being a prick here, but i just dont like how this guy approached the forum. Whats the bet he never posts again? Tell me im wrong, but out of all the people who are one post wonders and post only 'because they are desperate for help', this guy just blew in from the wrong direction. Maybe I've just noticed an increase in these types of posts lately and im a little frustrated that people cant even introduce themselves correctly (ie have some fkn manners). They get the help they need from very gracious people, then run for the hills.

This forum is definitely the nicest and most helpful I've ever come across, but I cant help thinking that people know this and abuse this fact.

I'm thinking electrical part of the ignition switch, since the cluster lights as well as the starter don't engage. Even a weak battery should light up the cluster lights.

I know, poster said he checked out the electrical part of the ignition switch, but there are multiple contacts there, like the one that operates the windows, etc., does make contact because those still work.

I had an intermittent in my '98 Frontier electrical part of the ignition switch and had to replace that after it miraculously made contact with the key out and killed some batteries.

I assume that the fuses under the hood were also checked out, not just the ones under the dash.

I also have a 2004 Frontier, same set up as yours but 100K; if you PM with your E-mail address, I'll send the chapters on starting/wiring.

He already said he found the problem.
