Default Putting TBI back ON my Z24i

Long story short I bought a used TBI and am trying to get the "i" back in Z24i. the previous owner put a terrible carb on it and began leaking into the intake manifold making it undrivable. So they had put a low volume external fuel pump on it so i need to either hook up the orignial sender unit in the tank or get a high presure external pump. I am not 100% sure how to check but i know i need to see if they kept the original distributer (i know the "i" versions its just a cam sensor or something) but is there anything else i should be looking for?

I want to retain everything i need for California Smog so the EGR system needs to stay and looks complete to me. Any help would be greatly appreciated. If anyone knows if i can switch to a carb (and which one) and still able to smog my truck that would be great as well! Lots of posts of people putting 38/38 and 32/36 webbers on these things which would be cool if i could but California says no

In cali you will fail visual with a carb I am willing to bet. Its not OEM.

Youll need a TBI unit, air pump (AIV) at very least for emissions junk. The FSM can show the differences with the CA vehicles. Folks like Sifi and JP2Code have links to the FSM in their signatures.

A carb is one heckuva step back.

It won;t pass the visual and I'm sure that it won't pass the tail-pipe test as the emissions will be way increased.

TN smog testing is a LOT looser than Cali testing. Cali is the strictest in the US.

I highly doubt my VG33i with no emissions anything would pass anywhere in the US. I havnt touched the cat but I pretty sure it's guts were in my old muffler.

Thank you for the information! I have the TBI coming in tomorrow so i will be getting it on and pulling my bed to see if the original sender is in place and hook that back up. if not im going to be getting an external high psi pump and try to fire it up! I am a little worried that at almost 30 years old that the TBI or injector itself may need to be rebuilt.

Thank god the local reps got the emissions repealed. They went the way of the dinosaur a few months back.

I would check fuel pressure before pulling the bed. If it's high enough (I want to say something like 35PSI but check the FSM) let 'er rip!

My home state of Washington did the same, kinda want to register it at my folks place up there and get around this nonsense.

That is what I did when my truck started to have issues. I got my mom to register it for me one county away. Now that the testing is gone, I will transfer the title back to myself when this current tag expires later this summer.
