Rattle at start up
Hello.
My 96 plain Jane sounds awful at start up. Almost like dieseling. Very Rattle sounding. I checked the chain and it is tight. Any ideas? Could be something loose, but I don't think so. |

How did you check the chain? At the top of the sprocket or down the side of the chain? Is the noise internal or external to the engine?

A section of broomstick can be a good indicator on where a noise problem is, as long as the engine isn't shaking where you place the broomstick and put it to your ear. Have to determine where noise comes from.

if the chain was never replaced, or you do not know if it was replaced than I would highly recommend replacing it and the guides.
