Auto or Manual trans? (double clutching? ...ok, manual)
Honestly, find a good trans shop and get it rebuilt. These trans are becoming hard to find, but if you want to replace, start hitting the local junkyards and see what's out there. You'll not find much with low miles, considering these trucks are well over 30 YO. GL... OH... welcome to IN!

Yeah mine is shot as well. Screaming in all gears except 4th. Nissan should have been sued over this problem.

In 2011, I took my truck to AAMCO to have new synchronizers installed, so not a full rebuild.
It was $1800. A used transmission is $400 to $600.

I would love to one day do another transmission thread on the FS5R30 transmission. I think a lot of folks on here would benefit from it.

TBH, the 4 cylinder FS5W71C and 6 cylinder FS5R30A transmissions are very similar in how they operate and are put together, the FS5R30A is just bigger. The output shafts are shorter on the 4WD transmissions and I think a couple of the corresponding bearings are different but everything else is the same internally. So a lot of the information for the 4 cylinder transmission would also apply to the 6 cylinder. The problem with a lot of stuff this old is there aren't really a lot of "good used" parts anymore, just used parts. To end up with a good used something you either have to fix your existing one or have deep pockets to pay someone to fix it. |

I know those synchronizers I got for mine are not available through Nissan anymore. I guess we just drive these things until we can't get parts anymore - then either part it out or convert to something different (Tesla engine, anyone?)
