Hey folks,
I just picked this up last night knowing it had some overheating issues, problem mad to be fair but . . . The fan is really loud on pull away 1st, 2nd gear . . . then it quietens down. Every time I stopped at a set of traffic lights the temp gauge started climbing up to half way and just past in some instances, and no sign of the fan shifting to a higher speed?? Along the highway though the temp gauge stayed about a 1/3 of the way. When I spin the fan by hand (engine off cooled down) it stops as soon as my finger leaves the blade almost. I've checked the oil and coolant for any signs of head gasket damage and both look ok. Thinking if it's not the fan clutch perhaps it's the thermostat. What else should I check? Any help/ideas would be great. |

What is your %% of coolant to clean/distilled water? ...clogged rad? ...partially? I'd do a flush and refill before I went any further. Save what comes out and inspect...
Please include a lot more info about your Urvan, in your profile. We can't assist if we have to ask every time. Understand? We need more information. Can't tell you about Coolant % since I've only just bought the Van, and never filled it. I opened the cap and it was full and green colour. Flush is not a bad idea though. My main concern is the fan doesn't seem to kick on when I'm sitting at lights and the temp gauge climbs above halfway, and I know I should hear it since I'm virtually sitting on top of it. |

Thanks man! Speaks volumes...
Have you found a service manual... of any sorts? Might look into it... check these and see what suits you. You need to know your vehicle... sorry that I can't. https://www.onlymanuals.com/nissan/urvan https://carmanualsclub.com/nissan-ur...repair-manual/ https://issuu.com/dadang76nsish/docs...service_manual https://www.pinterest.com/pin/443745369522002401/ Owners manual: https://en.nissan.co.th/content/dam/...anual%20EN.pdf Hope that something here helps... OH, speaking of your problem... let's find an electrical diagram and follow the diagram back from the fan. Know how to read a schematic? Color codes on wires? ...ready to learn? (o:| Cheers...

Anyhow just an update . . . I drained the coolant and flushed & bled the system and ruled out a faulty Thermostat (since it never had one in there). Refilled and drove it round the block and it's still overheating. I guess it's a process of elimination, think I'll inspect and likely replace the water pump next 🤷*♂️ |

Check the upstream (front side) of the rad/condenser to see if blocked by bugs, leaves, etc.
Have A/C? If so, when activated, does the rad fan kick to high speed?

https://carmanualsclub.com/nissan-ur...repair-manual/ No Thermostat? You should start getting this vehicle back to a good base point. Adding a Thermostat should be one of the first things... when you do the water pump, please consider this. So, what tells you that you're overheating? Got a gauge on the dash?

No A/C unfortunately but the fan clutch is def not working properly I reckon, it's soo noisy on pull away in 1st, 2nd gear then stays on FULL it seems on the highway. But an overactive fan doesn't explain the overheating. The rad looks pretty rust coloured inside and guessing it's original with 340k's, probably needs replacing 🤷*♂️ |

Replace the clutch too. If, as with the D21s, it has the same four little (10mm?) bolts and nuts to get the fan off of it, I hope you have small fingers! :-)
