Just got the old XR200R back on the road yesterday after doing quite a bit of rebuilding on it. It had been raining a bit but the roads weren't too wet, or so I thought. I was roaming around in the county just doing a shakedown run when I came to a real sharp curve with heavy tree cover. Rain, pollen, etc. made the road slick as glass. Tried to turn, bike/physics said no, hit the guide rail on the side of the bridge and flew 20 feet or so over the handlebars into a freezing cold creek. Luckily I managed to swim out. My ankle is pretty screwed up and I'm sore all over, but no major injuries. Helmet saved my head/face from getting absolutely wrecked by the gravel bottom of that creek. Bike is most likely a loss, but I'm just glad I didn't get hurt too bad.

Same here. It sucks about the bike, but it's insured. Even if I take a loss, I had less than a grand in it so it's not the worst. Just glad I didn't break any bones or friggin drown.

Landing in water was always my nightmare. As a kid I would have to ride around the top of a dam wall with a very thin path, man that sucked!
Edit: get well soon! Last edited by h.stickeye; 04-28-2018 at 12:31 AM. |

I ride also, albeit an ATV. These things can kill faster than it takes to shift a gear. I have had some close calls, and I have flipped a time or three also. I blew my left knee out really bad about ten years ago. It took me 6 months to feel comfortable riding again. Calling it a hyperextention was a stretch lol
Glad your ok, and at least you had the helmet. Without it, you may have been knocked unconscious and been in that water. Scary stuff. Glad you are ok.

Unlike caddie I don't same selfe preservation. Blew up a knee riding one day. Knee looses to rock. I kept riding even though I couldn't walk or stand on it. Then drove my truck home then another 100 miles to college and gimped around for a few months and fell down some.icy hills. Never did see a doc. I still walk with a slight gimp and have a knot on that knee. I've done similar on mtn bikes where I have even less self preservation. Knocked myself cold at least once on my DH bike.
Glad you are ok, man. It could have gotten bad fast.
