Default Racing simulator seat build

Now that I've gotten settled into my house I figured it was time to work on something fun. I've wanted a seat for my wheel/pedals/etc. for a while so I figured I'd make my own for great justice.

Started off with a couple seats out of a 2005 Altima. A coworker plans to build the same thing I'm building when I'm done, so I picked up a matching set to make it easier.

Took measurements and built a frame out of 2x4s. I used my Yaris cab as a reference point for where to position the seats and such.

Built this bar as a means of holding the seat mounts together as a unit to make installation and such easier. I know these welds are ugly. I don't know what kind of steel that chair bracket is made out of, but my welder doesn't like it at all.

It's not done yet, but that's where I'm at so far.

I did this years ago when PS2 and Gran tourismo just came out - before my metal fab days so it was all PVC and u-bolts... but it was awesome and I spent hours in it haha

With decent wheels coming way down in price and my kids getting a bit older I may have to put another one together

Awesome build!

Did a bit more work last night. Haven't gotten to spend as much time in the garage as I'd like this week.

That's pretty cool. Does the post for the steering get in the way?

I thought it would when I was first building it, but for me at least where the steering wheel post sits is right between my knees. I played some Forza Horizion 3 last night (and streamed it so my buddies could watch me fight with the wheel lol). It's awesome!

thats rad! right now i'm using my dining room chair for racing games and it hurts my tailbone quite a bit after not long! i'd love an actual car seat to help negate the terrible ergonomics i currently have!
