Default A/C compressor chirp

The A/C compressor clutch on my D22 makes a loud chirp when it's turned on, and every minute or so thereafter.

It hasn't affected cooling so far. But does it mean the clutch is headed for failure soon? Or is it maybe a symptom that the friction surfaces are contaminated with lubricant and need to be cleaned?

does the clutch disengage when it chirps? you can always give it a shot of lubricant and see if that helps. it is 20 years old.....it could be getting ready to die. no way to really know until it happens.

Feels like it disengages -- there's a slight lurch while driving when it chirps.

Any place I could find an exploded view of the clutch assembly? I have no idea what the internals look like.

Try tightening that belt a little, or replace belt with a new Gates, Gatorback, or Nissan belt.

the clutch just may be shot. the air gap is probably just enough to let it go on and off. i do not know if the air gap is adjustable.
