What viscosity and brand of engine oil do you all run? What brand of oil filter ?
This may be a stupid question but. Is there one oil/filter over another that will help to prevent/stop chain rattle ?

5w30 with a Nissan filter was what got the best results for me. But that’s still not perfect. It’s a flawed design. Best bet for a long term solution is to order one of the shims that Mr. Jim sells off YouTube.

Not my thread but thanks AL, that's really useful information. I have been toying with the idea of buying a more expensive filter (purolator vs the typical microgard) to see if it helps with the rattle at all. I've already replaced the chain/guides/tensioner and it still does it.
I was also just about to post a thread about possibly installing an oil pump for a turbo 280xz, but all the research I've done so far says they're basically the same pump and I wouldn't really gain anything by doing that. I may have to look into those shims eventually. |

Would you stay with the Nissan filter or something like a Beck/Arnley or a Bosch? I would assume all oil is basically the same as long as you change it.

having spent 15 years in the auto service industry, your statement is basically correct. while there may be a difference between brands with some difference compounds, they are all the same. it would be different if you were running a thirty thousand dollar top fuel alcohol engine. just keep the oil and filter changed at regular intervals, and the engine will run forever.
