Default Sound Deprived

I am sound deprived.
My original radio has heard better days. A cassette was jammed in the player so that doesnít work. Not that I have any cassettes to play. The AM reception sucks, and yes I listen to AM radio. Iím a talk radio junky. My radio does not have any knobs and I canít set the clock to the current time.
I think itís time to upgrade. I am looking for something thats a plug and play for my 95 D21. I would like good AM/FM reception and Bluetooth. Any suggestions on what to get.

Anything single DIN and a wire harness kit should have you sorted.

Double dins also fit really nicely, that's what I've been running in mine and I recommend running a pioneer that has Bluetooth, either single din or double din

No aftermarket radio will be "plug and play", but as others have said, a wiring harness makes it super easy. My advise is to avoid knock off brands like the plague. Pioneer, JVC, and Kenwood are the brands I recommend. Pioneer tends to have the best tuners, but it is possible it won't be quite as good as the OEM radio. People just don't listen to the radio like they used to, and manufacturers know this... So they don't put as much effort into the tuners as they used to.

A decent CD stereo can be had for under $100. You might want to get a Metra installation kit and Metra wiring adapter kit, I used these in both my Frontiers when I replaced the stock stereos (my '98 had AM-FM cassette). I advise soldering/shrink wrap on any wire connections you need to make.

I still have working cassette stereos in my 1970 and 1971 VWs !!! And lots of tapes; turns out predictions of cassette tape life back in the 1970s were very conservative. I can still listen fine to tapes I made back in the late 1970s, and some have lived in the VW glove boxes in Arizona heat for decades.

Call customer service at www.crutchfield.com. Or go talk to your local stereo shop. They will send you in the right direction.

Alpine was the way to go 10 years ago... But they are turning out overpriced unreliable junk these days. Avoid at all costs. And there is no need to go to a local stereo shop for advise, when you have a professional installer right here! Lol.
