Fixing to buy and dash to do my swap with. My question is can you fab up or use the older cluster and stay with a manual speedometer. I have been doing a ton of reading and haven’t seen anyone touch this.

The square cluster is larger than the rounded dash opening. It would be much easier to swap the new cluster in. I could understand if you wanted a custom cluster for the sake of having a custom cluster. I can't think of a logical reason to attempt to keep the cable even if you go with a custom cluster with an aftermarket speedometer.

Just go electronic on the Vss. You need two wires for this to work a Red and white wire from two different plugs on the round cluster wiring harnes. Don’t be afraid to cut and convert both harnesses, using Ronnie’s diagram is very simple just take it one plug at a time. And very important keep your old hazard light switch Do not use the new style round dash hazard switch

I've added wiring instructions for swapping in the new style hazard switch to the thread with Ronnie's how-to.
