Like a lot of cars I have had and areas I've lived in, AM reception usually sucks. Sucked with the factory Nissan cassette and stock antenna. I installed a Pioneer touchscreen because Pioneer has always been known for there tuners. Same crappy AM reception with the stock antenna.
I put on a rubber shorty antenna for looks and the reception stayed the same (I knew it would Not improve with it, just for looks). I am wondering if I added a Second antenna to work with the fender mounted one. Thinking about adding one of those 'hidden antennas' that you put in the dash or headliner Has anyone heard about using two antennas in conjunction for better reception? I know I could have Tried to replace the stock one with a new Metra one, but the reviews I've read did not make it seem worth wild. Any ideas? |

Hmmm - I have two Frontiers, the 1998 definitely has a shorty antenna, the 2004 does not. Both have aftermarket CD-stereos about 10 years old, and not high-end models either. Saturday mornings I can pick up AM radio from Phoenix (80 miles away if crows fly straight), and some mountains are in the way. I listen to a radio auto repair call-in show; yes, I have to have one of the Frontiers in the driveway to pick up that show, cannot have the truck in the garage (no reception there).
By the way - I CANNOT pick up that same station using an in-house digital tuning "upgraded" boom box on on a small boom box.
