Trip out. I did the same thing with mine, but I cut the bic tip to slip over the remaining seedo cable in the Nissan (89 D21).
I didn't have the old square plastic piece so I cut the square section of a metal speedo from a 72 lincoln I had in the bone yard. Works fine, no noise either. |

I have been googling for three days trying to find something to explain why the #$^% pin won't turn or reseat.
This post inspired me to clean off the grease (that I usually try to leave on) and I discovered not one, but TWO cracks. I'm trying to track down some shrink tubing right now (from work - not the easiest thing ever) and I'll fix it after work today. Thank you! |

Thanks to the internet I have saved myself money and time. I bought this truck last week and the previous owner had tried to get the speedo fixed with no luck. His mechanic said it would need either a new cable or speedo. When I followed the instructions on this thread, I pulled out the tip and found the body was cracked exactly as shown. I have some shrink wrap somewhere so will hopefully have the truck legal and back on the road this weekend. Thanks again- great thread and website.

Excellent! This write-up saved my bacon
![]() I do notice it registers my speed as a little faster than I'm actually going, but I'm pretty certain that's because of the taller tires it's running ![]()

Does the cluster side work properly? Did you pull the plastic piece out of the cable side?
