The Reason I asked Joe, was the instruction sheet from your first post requires the vehicle to be in "Drive". There's even a footnote.

That's going to make it hard to check the timing, then.

I guess you have to have your buddy do the timing while you steer the vehicle.

Otherwise, you'd have to use the emergency brake or wheel chocks.

I have loosened the two bolts holding the distributor down but can't get it to move any suggestions.

That sounds odd. I've never heard of that.

Are you sure you loosened the right bolts?

Could be a little corrosion or something holding it in place. Might try tapping it with a block of wood and a hammer.

my truck is a 97 too, I found timing specs on EC-323, Under: Inspection and adjustment. page-463. I know I saw it somewhere else too but I couldn't find it just now.
