Broken water pump bolts. Need advice. - Page 2 - Infamous Nissan

Drill and lube the threads. Do you have any penentrating oil? Highly recommended...

Also, drill at low speed. Metal bits work best there...

Its to the point I'm definitely gonna need to helicoil i think. I haven't seen any threads when drilling out the bolt yet. still need to finish drilling, but i guess ill drill to the right size for the right helicoil and go from there. its annoying that its the one bolt you probably couldn't get away with leaving out.

Sounds like you are working fast on this.

If you are at a break point, go buy a couple of new drillbits in the size you need. Get a reverse bit if you can find it. Like [Small Black Truck] said above, they are great.

You are getting to the point where you might have to take it to a machine shop to get it fixed because of how bad you have messed it up, so don't go cheap with the drillbits.

Yeah i was in a hurry to get it fixed. cost me tbh. But this trucks a winter/woods beater. I wish i could say the truck is nice enough for it to be pulled out and repaired right but it really isn't. So one of two things is gonna happen. either I'm gonna get it with drilling and tapping when i feel like getting back on it OR the bolts just not gonna get put back and ill just use something on that section of the gasket to try and keep it sealed down.

Alright well I've got a decent 1/4 hole drilled. May need to drill a bit deeper unsure. But now I just gotta order the m6 x1.00 heicoil kit and hopefully be done with this nightmare.

Update for anyone who cares. I abandoned the truck in favor of a frontier. I did helicoil the hole, but i lost confidence that it would even work, The helicoil didn't look like it was set right and the idea of putting it back together intimidated me honestly. I was sure it just wasnt gonna work out and the truck had set all this time, BUT for whatever reason after two months it struck me to try putting it back together the other day. just for S&Gs really. And to my surprise I did get it back together and running again. AND the thing sealed up well and as far as i can tell no internal water pump leaks.

The truck still needs ALOT of work. Body is rough, Interior is rought, Motor and trans mounts are about gone. shocks are shot, and the front end needs some work as it eats tires. and Something is up with the torsion bars. Ones all the way in the other all the way out and its sitting level sooo. This thing is a beater. I toyed with the idea of selling it, but i dont wanna deal with the hassle. I know everyone will just pick it apart and offer me offers that its just not worth selling it for, so ive decided to let my buddy have it as cheap transportation. All he has is big gas or diesel guzzlers so this little truck ought to do a bit better.

Myself - I like solid threaded inserts way better than the coil type.
