Default How are the Frontier 4 cylinders?

I'm looking for a newer truck, I want a King cab Frontier, most likely a 2wd, I was looking at only V6 trucks but wanted to ask how are the 4 cylinder engines? I know they make more power than the KA24E but the truck is bigger also. how do the trucks do with the 4 compared to the V6?

Thanks

Interesting thread. What years are you considering?

Toyota made a T100 with a 4-cylinder. There were not many of them, though. I saw one for sale once, and thought it would be an interesting buy. I didn't, but I thought about it.

Ouch.

https://cars.usnews.com/cars-trucks/...er/performance

It looks like the same 2.5 liter 4-cylinder that the base Altima has.

The fuel mileage report is even almost the same.

I also notice it came in at #5 in their list of small pickups. Chevy was #2. Is Nissan losing it's roots?

I'm looking at the newest I can afford, basically 2012 and up.

Not even looking at Toyota, the same year truck Toyota to Nissan is usually a few thousand more, I don't like the Tacoma's weird looking rear fender openings either.

I’ve never driven an 05+ frontier with the 4 cyl, but that 4.0V6 is niiiice. I loved it in my 2011 frontier. I just didn’t love the payment.

I would prefer the V6, the MPG is less of course the towing is double, but as you said the price and payment would be more

If the posted numbers 17 city/22 hwy are accurate, that poor 2.4L 4-cylinder must be under constant load to move the new Frontier around.

That 4.0 advertises 16 city/23 hwy. 1MPG isn't going to hit your wallet very hard.

I spent a few hours looking at the US News site yesterday. I was really surprised by how well the Colorado and Canyon trucks are being received. I think they are ugly, but they seem to be getting great reviews.

That's true, but as with every other MPG number, those numbers are probably under perfect conditions doing the speed limit, my normal commute to work doing 80-85 would probably knock the MPG way down !

I think the Federal laws changed a few years back. Now the MPG has to match actual driving conditions.

I've been surprised to find that my Altima gets the same MPG whether I'm going 60 or 80.

Probably something to do with disabling a cylinder or something.

I will say i have not driven a 4cyl 05+ but i do have a 07 CC 4wd with teh 4liter and it moves for what it is.. I have the bullydog Gt tuner and a CAI and highway itll get about 20 if i drive like a normal human being.. but i also have larger tires then stock .. but as jp2code said , 1MPG isn't going to hit your wallet very hard, and you can bust up on the locals in a 6cyl truck lol
