My 89 was the same color as that, originally, and looked like that early in life, and it was under a carport most of the time...

Maybe I'm on to something, that sucks. I've had to rattle can a few spots on mine because of surface rust. I've come to accept how shitty my paint is because there's always something else I'd rather fix on my truck.

Near Roseburg? I spent some years in Roseburg and Sutherlin when I was a kid. I wonder if they still talk about the Big Ass Dynamite Truck Explosion in downtown Roseburg that happened all those years ago. When I was there, it was still a main topic with the townspeople. It made the Oklahoma City Bombing look like a cheapie firecracker.

Its not a topic on conversation anymore from what I see. Ive only been down here for a couple years.

Headliner was in rough shape. I'd been holding out on recovering it in hopes of locating my material of choice, grey Pathfinder seat fabric to tie it all together. Then I found this one at the JY in excellent condition. This allowed the other "while I'm in there" jobs to be completed such as applying some foil-backed butyl (e.g. Dynamat) and wiring up the Pathfinder sun visors. Also put some seam sealer between the cross bars on the roof. Truck feels far less like a tin can rattle trap, and the tattered headliner with what appeared to be a shaken Coke can spray stain was really holding the interior back. Far nicer place to be now, and very happy that the vanity lights are working because non-functioning features are annoying.

My truck was the same color, can confirm that particular paint doesn't hold up. Someone rattle canned over the top of mine without sanding all the old paint off, so I occasionally have paint flake off where that original paint is falling off underneath the newer paint.

I think there was definitely a defect in the paint, I've seem a couple of other Hardbodies in this Gray around town, and the paint is usually shot/flaking.

Man, that headliner looks great. I'm surprised you got the plastic B pillars off without breaking something. When I tried to remove mine I broke a clip on each side and gave up, I didn't want to damage them any further. I ended up having to cut the headliner in half to get it out. I just left the back half off of it when I reinstalled.

Hell, let's rally for a paint recall! Im always envious of D21's with clean paint. Costs too much for a decent paint job and I'm afraid I'd screw it up myself. Curious about vinyl wrapping.

Clean paint! My truck is all dusty. Not acceptable.
