Default Vg30

So there is a DUI distributor that is made for the VG30 and the port injected engine can be modified to work with a Webber carb. so if there is no injector or anything else that needs it could this ron without a ECU and be put in an older truck like a 720?

ECM manages fuel and ignition timing while watching the O2 sensor.

I believe some folks go carbed and keep an ECU to do things like run the gauges, advance timing, etc.

Without an ECM only your speedo will work.

But if I am putting it in an older body that was pre ECU and I used a DUI distro and carb there would be no need for ECU right?

Still won't have gauges or any other function that passes through the ECU. You won't have the advantage of electronic timing advance.

All the sensors in the motor go through the ECU and to the dash. Fuel, temp, oil, etc.

It is highly possible to do this. My buddy and I did a carb swap on a VG30E. We used an intake from a VG30i motor, used the DUI dizzy and cut out all the nonnecessary wiring for the old EFI. We did leave the ecm to run the gauge functions as we extended those wires to adapt to the V-6 engine.

The DUI unit provides 30 total degrees of ignition timing. When the VG30 is carb converted, that swap eliminates the throttle and air flow sensors. Without the throttle sensor signal, the ecm can not adjust the timing with the factory unit. It will run with the oem distributor on a carb swap. Mine does.....but it really needs the DUI vac advanced distributor to run properly.

But the question is if I put a VG30 in a Datsun 720 with a carb and a DUI dizzy do I need the ECU?
Actually also thought about using one as a engine for a 68 fair lady

Probably not. All the ECM would do is run oem gauges.

If it's got a Z24i it does. No VG in the 720.
