Default 87 d21 2wd z24 charge did cap and rotor now won't start.

First time poster.
I have a 87 d21 with z24. I have rough idle and major power loss and sputtering when floor it or goin get up a hill. Just charge distributor cap and rotor. Now it will not start. I moved plug wire one by one to new cap. Any help would be appreciated. Tried to pull code put ca seem to find diag leds on ECU. My has the toggle switch.

The LEDs are towards the front of the ECM and on the top conveniently where it's easiest to see if you pull the passenger seat. JP has a spreadsheet I made with fault codes. I think it has the Z24 codes.

I really don't want to pull the bench seat. I may try tomorrow with a telescopic mirror.

I hope JP comments. There should also be a good write-up on it too. The location sucks.



It's probably just something like having the cap or rotor on wonky.

Can't the rotor on those go on like 3 different ways? Rotate the engine to TDC #1 (use pulley mark and drinking straw/etc. to ensure that) and see if rotor is under #1 spot on the cap.


And/or replace rotor and cap with old ones just to see if it starts.
